Throughout the program, I dove into deeper different perspectives of medicine and the many opportunities available to me as a future healthcare professional. This experience allowed me to grow academically and personally while giving me greater confidence as I begin my pre-med journey at Northeastern University. A levels, Year 13"MedSTEMPowered's Summer Program exceeded my expectations and gave me opportunities that I would not normally have access to as a pre-med student in Malaysia. Through interactive workshops in neurology, GI, CPR, and palliative care, I gained knowledge that went beyond simply understanding anatomy. I learned about diseases, treatments, clinical reasoning, and how physicians use information to make decisions. The quizzes, case scenarios, and simulations made the learning especially engaging and helped me understand what applying medical knowledge in real situations can look like.
I also really valued the guest speaker sessions, where doctors and nurses shared their educational journeys, daily experiences, and challenges in healthcare. Hearing their stories gave me a more realistic understanding of different healthcare careers and reinforced the importance of empathy and human connection in medicine.
One of the most meaningful parts of the programme was the opportunity to network with healthcare professionals and develop my cold-emailing skills. Coming from Malaysia, where opportunities to connect with doctors can often depend on existing connections, this was incredibly valuable. The programme also introduced me to the American pre-med culture and medical school pathway, which encouraged me to explore and understand the differences between pursuing medicine in Malaysia and the United States.

11th Grade"Participating in the MedSTEMPowered Summer Program was a turning point for me but maybe not in the way I originally expected. Before joining, finding high quality med opportunities felt impossible because of my financial situation, and I hoped this virtual intensive would give me all the answers about my future.
The experience was incredibly eye opening. The virtual shadowing sessions and medical workshops made complex biomedical concepts easy to grasp , the program also helped me understand myself on a much deeper level.
It gave me the space to figure out what I truly wanted.Ultimately, it made me realize that my path actually lies in a tech career rather than clinical medicine. Even though I am choosing a different professional route, I will never regret this summer.
I might still occasionally think about what a medical career could have been but the core analytical skills, problem-solving mindset, and unique healthcare insights I gained here will stay with me for the rest of my life.

We were able to ask questions directly and often received additional time and guidance beyond what was originally planned. The program also offered advice servers where students could ask questions beyond medical careers, including SAT preparation, college advice, and networking opportunities for our own nonprofits and organizations. I also gained valuable insight into the research process, from developing ideas to organizing a team for a research symposium. Overall, this program helped me grow academically, professionally, and personally while connecting me with an amazing community."

"My experience with MedSTEMPowered was really meaningful because it gave me my first real exposure to the medical field. Before joining the program, I was interested in healthcare, but I didn’t have much medical knowledge or experience connecting with professionals. Eligibility is determined following an initial review of your preliminary application, after which eligible candidates are invited to fill out the scholarship form. This scholarship is intended for students with high financial need. Final recipients are selected based on a combination of demonstrated financial hardship and strong passion for medicine and STEM.

No, there is no separate application required. All candidates are evaluated using the single, standard scholarship application form.

No, prior acceptance is not required. Invitation to apply for a scholarship is based directly on the evaluation of your preliminary application.

The exact number varies each year depending on available sponsorship funding and open program seats. For example, 34 scholarships were awarded this past camp. Regardless of the exact total in a given cycle, the selection process remains highly competitive.

While financial need is the primary criteria, our review process is holistic. Beyond financial status, we evaluate:
